Hi!
I am Julia and I'm 25 years old. I'm Dutch, born and raised in Zwolle, but I have lived in Amsterdam for the past 4 years. I graduated from two studies: Graphic Design and Fashion Business & Development at Amsterdam Fashion Institute (AMFI). At AMFI, I did a minor in denim and a specialisation in 3D fashion technology (Clo3D). I did my internship at the design department from Hunkemöller and I graduated in writing a thesis on implementing 3D design technology within Hunkemöller's design process.
I'm very eager to learn and therefore regularly look for new challenges.

In my spare time, I like to spend time with friends and family or take dance classes with urban choreographers. Another hobby of mine is DJ'ing and surfing. (PS: I got my international surf instructor diploma).
ABOUT ME
"I can't wait to see what the future holds for Julia, as her ability to design with a commercial and on-brand handwriting comes naturally to her."

FASHION AND THE CIRCULAR ECONOMY
This semester, I concentrated on how the fashion industry might be organized differently, not just in terms of producing turnover (which is required to be in business), but also in terms of how a firm can contribute to a healthy world for everyone. Sustainability, meaning, and circularity are some of the subjects that will be covered this semester. Responsibility is a word that may be used to describe sustainability and meaningfulness. Acting responsibly while keeping an eye and a heart on people's social aspects, the environment, and wealth. The semester's curriculum is organized around three pillars: collecting, material, and production. The final recommendation is based on the analysis of the first two subjects.
• Collection Analysis: Does it match the company's vision, mission, and core values?
• Sourcing Plan: How do material selections and product development procedures match the company's vision?
• Production Plan: A plan of action for a healthy collection at the operational level.
FASHION BUSINESS & STRATEGY
Fashion and strategy were the focus of this semester. Doing business in this field requires more than wealth, charm, and good looks, as I learned in semester 3.
To stay ahead of the competition, simply providing an alternative to your opponent isn't enough. The true key is to have a solid strategy that leads to a long-term business model. In order to achieve this aim, I learned how to prepare strategic advice for a fashion firm. This semester, I acted as a consultant for a fashion firm (Prada), and my objective was to write a strategic advice report. My objective was to keep the firm ahead of the competition in the long run.
The semester is divided into three parts:
• Situation Analysis
• Strategic Position
• Financial Plan
MINOR DENIM
In this Fashion & Denim Minor, I'm experiencing first-hand the complexities of the fashion supply chain and am exposed to and interact with industry stakeholders from all levels and areas. AMFI's key suppliers not only dedicate their valuable time but finance the minor by sponsoring fabrics and prototypes, therefore it is crucial
that we, as students, adhere to the following deadlines and take responsibility for all interactions with our industry partners.

The overall aim is to create and pitch a new denim sub-brand to leading industry experts. My group (consisting of 7 students) are going to pitch our sub-brand idea to Kings Of Indigo.

One of my tasks during this minor is taking care of the range plan of the seasonal collection (S/S24). After all our research, I came up with a first draft:

SPECIALISATION 3D HYPERCRAFT

This specialisation took me through the experience of developing a personal vision on fashion, clothing, and the industry. I needed to develop a visionary approach to fashion and its importance in a world where creative thinking was necessary.

I learned to translate my ideas into a challenging way of designing in the virtual world of 3D prototyping, sampling, and presenting. Essential to my success was the number of challenges I was willing to research and develop during the process; development in processes and products in all related areas was key.

I met and learned different 3D software applications for creating virtual, true-to-life garment visualization with cutting-edge simulation technologies. I experimented with patterns, textile simulations, avatars, and environments. This journey into the future of the fashion industry provided me with in-depth knowledge and great technical skills that became a landmark in my portfolio and professional career.

ABOUT THIS COLLECTION
"AN ODE TO ALL THE HARDWORKING WOMEN"
Step into the 90's hip-hop scene with "Rhythm of Threads: 90’s Hip-Hop re-imagined." This womenwear collection seamlessly blends everyday comfort with the stylish allure of hip-hop, drawing inspiration from the confidence of hardworking women and the iconic styles of 90's female hip-hop artists, putting a modern twist on classic looks from the past.
As a hip-hop dancer, I found inspiration in the music and fashion of 90's female hip-hop artists. Analysing Patta, I noticed the absence of a women's collection, sparking my goal to design a commercial line paying homage to this influential fashion era. Using CLO3D, and to immerse customers in the collection, I've created an avatar performing a TikTok dance in the clothing. This immersive experience will be featured in-store, on Patta's website, and across their social media platforms, providing customers with a dynamic perspective of the clothing in motion.
Patta's visual aesthetics guide this collection, combined with material choices like cotton and nylon, selected for their connection to Patta's palette and the historical fabrics of the era.
"Rhythm of Threads: 90’s Hip-Hop re-imagined" is designed as straight fits, merging street fashion with comfort, empowering wearers in both the street and hip-hop dance classes. This collection offers not only comfort and empowerment but also a modern-day twist on classic looks from the past.
Furthermore, by utilizing CLO3D, I extend Patta's brand into the digital realm, stepping beyond the conventional boundaries of fashion design. This digital approach adds a layer of innovation, allowing for precision and efficiency in the creative process.

INTERNSHIP AT HUNKEMÖLLER

During this internship, my responsibilities included designing new underwear styles, creating mood boards, researching trends, actively participating in meetings, requesting fabrics from suppliers, organizing lace boards, coordinating collection colors, designing tech packs, and being an active part of fittings and meetings with the buying team. I also implemented adjustments based on fittings and created overviews.

I went to work with pleasure every day until the very last day of my internship. I was able to work on all my learning goals. For example, I improved my organizational skills, ability to create overviews, and flexibility by working in a large company with high work pressure. The most important thing this internship taught me is that I gained extensive knowledge about lingerie, design, technical terms, processes within a large company, and maintaining contact with suppliers.

The highlight of my internship was designing my own lingerie, allowing me to explore and develop my unique style. This was one of my learning goals, and the most rewarding part was seeing my designs in stores and on the website.
"Julia has shown strong skills in decision-making and problem-solving. When left without enough work, she takes her own initiative and finds tasks to do. She is great at reflecting on and discussing her strengths and weaknesses, always aiming to improve them. Julia takes constructive feedback very well and consistently strives for better.
Extremely organized, she maintains a high standard in this area, excelling at making notes and asking necessary questions. Throughout her internship, Julia has been an absolute pleasure to work with, demonstrating excellent skills and particularly impressive organizational abilities, which will be greatly missed.
She has made significant improvements in her decision-making skills, consistently taking the initiative to find and complete tasks independently. I can't wait to see what the future holds for her, as her ability to design with a commercial and on-brand handwriting comes naturally to her."

POCKIES
In the 3rd year of my study Graphic Design, I did an internship at Pockies underwear in Amsterdam in the period February to June 2019. I did all kinds of things here but I was mainly busy designing new patterns for the boxers and editing (product) photos for the website.

The best assignment I had was designing the 'Lieve Jongens' Pockies in cooperation with rapper Snelle. I also enjoyed the photo shoot of the 'Wavy' Pockies, for which I was allowed to do the styling.

The assignment that taught me the most was to design/make a background and logo like the one for 'The Fresh Prince of Bel-air'. I did this in Photoshop.

PEAK.
For my exam assignment (masterpiece) at Cibap, I set up my own (fictitious) company. I wanted to design/customize, make and sell surfboard bags.
When I wanted to buy a board bag myself, I found out that there is very little choice in terms of prints and design. While surfers are (in my opinion) quite stylish. They have a distinctive clothing style, often according to the latest trends. With this idea PEAK was born.
